Air Conditioning

What type of Air Conditioning unit is right for me?

There are two types of air conditioners, the first is what as known as an evaporative air conditioners, sometimes known as water to air cooling units.  These air conditioners cool the room by forcing air to come in contact with evaporating water which provides maximum cooling effect.

But before we get started you need to understand how much cooling power you need for any given room size, to do this you can use this great BTU Calculator from HomeDepot to figure out how much air conditioning power you need.

Evaporative air conditioners work by using 'flow-through' ventilation, these type of coolers will not cool the air properly in a closed room and require a supply of cold water.  They work best when place by an open door or window so that they can draw fresh air in.

The second type of air conditioner is a refrigerated air conditioning unit, these air coolers work by drawing the warm are in, passing it through a condenser where the heat is absorbed and then pumped out through a window or a hole in the wall.  These air conditioning units work best in a closed room as it pumps the hot air out side and brings down the temperature of the air in a continuous cycle.
